The colorful Punta Arenas is located 3,090 kilometers south of Santiago de Chile. This charming city is the most important urban center in the Magellanic region. Located 260 kilometers from Puerto Natales and 619 kilometers from Ushuaia, Punta Arenas is the gateway to the Austral Region, also known as the “end of the world”.
The region’s climate is, due to its geographical location, very harsh during the winter season, with temperatures that barely exceed 0º C and regular snowfalls. The arrival of spring and summer make Punta Arenas a much warmer city, with averages ranging from 14 to 20º C. Sunny days are the most anticipated by everyone.
Its commercial, cultural and social development over the last few years has consolidated its importance in Chile. Its location on the shores of the Strait of Magellan, on the Brunswich peninsula, gives it a unique marine air that makes it paradisiacal along its streets, hills and port.
Punta Arenas is the southernmost continental city in the world; It is a supply port for the growing bi-oceanic traffic. Among its main attractions are the Salesian Maggiorino Borgatello Museum; the monument to the Sheepdog, with his horse, his dog and sheep; the local Cemetery; the Institute of Patagonia (a research center for the history and resources of the region, with the Museum of Remembrance in its gardens); the municipal theater; the Plaza Muñoz Gamero with its sculpture in memory of the discovery of the Strait of Magellan by Hernando de Magallanes; and splendid works that preserve their tradition, such as the Grand Hotel Cabo de Hornos, public buildings and local business offices.
